FROM HEROES T0 ZEROES (and just one score in double figures for Surrey’s batsmen). Less than one week ago, Surrey put on a world record score for a limited over game, posting an impressive 496 for 4 off their allotted 50 overs. Now they are on the overnight score of 34 runs for 6 wickets, and staring their third defeat in a row in the LV County Championship - Division One against Lancashire (who also are yet to register a win).

Surrey only posted a first innings total of 284 off of 93.3 overs, a far way from their world record 496 runs off half the amount of overs, with more or less the the same line up!

Is this a fundamental problem with the way we approach the two facets of the game? The differences are glaringly obvious between the limited over game and the 4 day match or test match. Everybody knows this.

However: Last time I checked, the size of the stumps and pitch were the same, the ball was still round and the bat made of wood, and guess what, the people who play it are all the same too!

Help is urgently needed!!!
